An update from MHYP President Alex Dvorak

An update from MHYP President Alex Dvorak

Hello Everyone,

Summer is finally here! After so much rain this spring, I can't wait to get outside and enjoy the great Colorado outdoors! I hope this letter finds you all in high spirits and enjoying the vibrant energy of the summer season! As we bask in the warmth of the sun and embrace the long, sunny days, I wanted to take a moment to express my utmost excitement and gratitude as your president.

First and foremost, I am thrilled to witness the continuous growth and success of our young professionals organization. Together, we have created a community that fosters personal and professional development, connects like-minded individuals, and empowers each member to reach new heights. It fills me with immense pride to see our organization flourish and make a positive impact on the lives of our members.

With the summer season upon us, we have an incredible lineup of events and activities that are bound to make this a memorable season for all of us. Our dedicated team has been working tirelessly to curate a diverse range of experiences that cater to various interests and preferences within our membership.

From engaging networking sessions that provide valuable connections, to thought-provoking workshops and seminars that sharpen our skills, we have an array of opportunities lined up to help each of us thrive both personally and professionally. These events will not only provide knowledge and growth but also facilitate meaningful connections with fellow members who share our ambition and drive.

However, it's not all work and no play! We understand the importance of balance and the need to unwind and enjoy the company of our peers. That's why we have planned a series of exciting social events, outings, and philantropic events to ensure we have ample opportunities to relax, rejuvenate, and create lasting memories.

I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation to our dedicated volunteers and committee members who have invested their time, energy, and passion into organizing these events. Their commitment and enthusiasm are instrumental in making our vision a reality.

As we embark on this summer journey together, I encourage each and every one of you to actively participate, engage, and make the most of the opportunities that lie ahead. Share your ideas, collaborate with fellow members, and take advantage of the platform we have created for you. Your involvement is what makes our organization thrive, and your contributions are invaluable.

Thank you for your unwavering support and dedication. Here's to a summer filled with inspiration, growth, and joyful experiences!

Be sure to check our calendar to register for all of these awesome upcoming events! As always, Contact MHYP if you have any questions.

Warm Regards,

Alex Dvorak

A message from your MHYP President Jason Hart

Hello Everyone,

Thank you for your continued patience during this past year as we navigated a global pandemic in which we had to make adjustments to the organization to make sure we adhered to the guidelines and restrictions on hosting events. I want to say a huge Thank You to our board members, committee leaders, and committee members who have kept this organization moving forward and put on some great events in spite of the challenges we faced during this time. We have some great events coming up and some great new ideas to offer to our members as we continue to evolve and adapt!

We have been working hard to get back into a "normal" networking setting and I am excited to announce that July's social will be hosted by Elevated Seltzer in Arvada! Please keep checking out our Events Page as we continue to add upcoming events as you won't want to miss them!

I hope to see you all at Elevated Seltzer in a few weeks!

Leadership Development Opportunities in Denver

Leadership Development Opportunities in Denver

Now more than ever, we are witnessing the importance of leadership in Colorado. We have seen how we can rally together to respond to a crisis, and it’s inspiring to see our leaders collaborate to take care of our community. MHYP is excited to be collaborating with the Denver Metro Chamber Leadership Foundation to cross promote some amazing leadership development opportunities.

The Leadership Foundation wants our community’s leaders to have the knowledge, network, skills and experiences to enhance their leadership. Applications are open for their upcoming programs: Leadership Denver 2021 class (due July 8th) and Impact Denver Fall 2020 class (due August 4th). Both programs are scheduled to start in September.

For the health and safety of participants, our Leadership Foundation team will assess in-person programs and transition to virtual experiences or postpone start dates if necessary.

We hope you’ll share these upcoming leadership development opportunities. If you have questions about their upcoming programs, email info@denverleadership.org.  Or plan to attend an info session for Leadership Denver on June 2 at 9:30 a.m., June 11 at 1:30 p.m. or June 16 at 1 p.m. For Impact Denver, the info sessions are scheduled for June 11 at 3 p.m. or June 29 at 3 p.m.

May events will continue virtually

May events will continue virtually

In response to the COVID-19 outbreak and the stay-at-home / safer-at-home order, Mile High Young Professionals is continuing to offer all of our events virtually during the month of May. During these challenging times, we want to be sure people have a place to commune and network. MHYP is built on the foundation of networking and interactions and it is especially important to do so now. Instead of jumping in our cars, Ubers or scooters, we'll be opening up our laptops and cleaning off our webcams to gather with each other.

Please join us for our May Social on Tuesday, May 12th to stay connected with the YP community. We are also offering a few special events this month, so keep an eye on our events page for the latest.

For the latest on everything coronavirus related, please visit our COVID-19 Information page.

MHYP Live Events Cancelled Through 4/30/20

MHYP Live Events Cancelled Through 4/30/20

MHYP has been monitoring the coverage and guidance from public health and elected officials, as COVID-19 continues to spread within Colorado. To protect the health of high-risk individuals and help flatten the curve, MHYP will be canceling all in-person events through April 30, 2020. We will be reviewing this decision every two weeks and will keep our community apprised of any updates as the situation develops. We love hosting events that bring YPs together, which is why this has been a difficult decision to make.

As the premier young professionals organization of Denver, we also believe this is an opportunity to set an example by practicing social distancing.  Let's encourage our peers to be kind and considerate to those who may be impacted by the spreading illness.

"Please don't let your immortality force someone else to confront their mortality".  - Brandon Borrman via Twitter, presumed to have COVID-19

In addition to practicing good hygiene and social distancing, we also want to do our part to promote a greater sense of community during these tenuous times. Here are some suggestions of ways you can have a positive influence:

  • Consider purchasing gift certificates to local restaurants/shops to use in the future. This will help them stay afloat during the period of reduced patronage.
  • If you are a healthy individual, consider running errands (getting groceries, picking up medicine, etc.) for those that are unable to do so
  • Check in on friends and family via phone calls, FaceTime, Zoom, etc.  Schedule virtual coffee breaks or happy hours to stay connected via video conferencing
  • Reach out to neighbors and offer to share necessary items to those who may not have them readily available (I.e., toilet paper!) due to a shortage.

As always, thank you for supporting Mile High Young Professionals and our efforts to help protect the health of our fellow Coloradans.

Stay healthy, friends!

MHYP Announces new President, Vice President, & Board of Director Members!

MHYP Announces new President, Vice President, & Board of Director Members!

Darcy Borella, President

Darcy began her career as a speech-language pathologist and spent ten years in healthcare management, overseeing therapy teams in long-term care facilities from New Jersey to California.  Working in the long-term care industry, Darcy saw firsthand how financial planning could make a difference in financing end-of-life care, as well as the stress it can place on the patients’ adult children.  She also noticed how many front-line healthcare workers don’t take advantage of retirement planning offered by their company, if one is offered at all.  Somewhere between witnessing the financial stress on patients’ family members, and co-workers’ confusion on how to invest their 401k accounts, Darcy realized she had a new calling and made the move from healthcare management to wealth management.

Darcy is now a licensed financial advisor with Trilogy Financial Services, where she continues to use a “client-first” mentality to ensure individualized goals drive the planning process. Darcy’s career is focused on small businesses who want to create solid retirement plan options for their employees.  She also is dedicated to helping young professionals make better decisions today to ensure financial independence for the future. Darcy currently holds a series 65 as well as life and health insurance licenses.

Darcy also serves on the board of the Colorado Speech and Hearing Association as the State Advocate for Medicare Policy (StAMP).  In her free time, she enjoys playing volleyball in the
VOTR league, trying out new restaurants in Denver, and relaxing at home in Arvada with her husband, Rob, and their border collie, Roscoe.

Jason Hart, Vice President

Jason is the Owner and Agent of State Farm-Jason Hart Agency a local State Farm Insurance and Financial Services office located in North Aurora. Jason moved to Colorado to open his office in January 2016. Jason and his team pride themselves in making sure people are educated about their insurance and financial needs to make sure they are properly protected and will be able to recover from the unexpected.

Jason is originally from San Diego, CA but moved with his family to a small town outside of San Antonio, TX when he was ten. He graduated with B.S in Biology from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and got a job as a contractor with the U.S. Navy which took him back to San Diego and then to Kings Bay, GA. career change was in order so Jason went back to school and got a MBA from Webster University and moved to New Orleans where he worked for a local State Farm office and learned how to open his own office.

Jason is an active member of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA) and is part of several local Realtor organizations. In his free time, you will find Jason exploring what Colorado has to offer from hiking and camping to road tripping to Aspen and Gunnison and traveling to other states and countries as much as he can.

June Mile High Movers & Shakers - Seizing the Day with Nate Cowing

  • June 5, 2017
June Mile High Movers & Shakers - Seizing the Day with Nate Cowing

Every other month, we feature a note-worthy, up and coming YP in the Denver area! Someone that is thinking outside of the box to make a big impact on our community or the world.

This month we chose to feature Nate Cowing. Check out his story, as told by our very own MHYP member, Trevor Turner.

Seizing the Day with Nate Cowing

By Trevor Turner

Life can be a beautiful thing, so take advantage of your time while on Earth and revel in the opportunities. We’ve all had loved ones who were taken too early and it’s easy to say live every moment to the fullest, but the truth is most of us don’t. Most of us, except for Nate Cowing, who echoes in my opinion, Robin Williams’s famous line from ‘Dead Poets Society’ “Carpe diem, seize the day boys, make your lives extraordinary.”

Now, Nate’s life isn’t for everyone, but are you curious how he’s seized the day so far in his life?  Since he’s worked many jobs across the country for the likes of Jimmy Fallon, MTV, SNL and Mark Cuban’s AXS TV, it’s not a short story. Oh yea, he’s also traveled the country playing shows with his band The Congress. Read on if you want to hear more.....

The straight and narrow path isn’t for everyone, so after high school and his first year of college at University of Colorado Boulder, Nate moved to Los Angeles where he worked as a cabana boy pulling beach chairs and umbrellas on and off the beach. He loved the California sun and of course, all the beautiful women!

It’s important to mention that Nate is a self-proclaimed wanderlust so it may not surprise you that he was born and raised in Boulder, CO. A wanderlust is someone who has a strong desire to travel and after a year in L.A, Nate decided to move back to Colorado for school. However, school brought him to New York City where he interned for MTV, SNL and “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.”

While at Fallon, Nate was setting up musicians playing on the show to ensure they had a great taping. He also had the opportunity to observe The Roots where he noticed drummer Quest Love’s work ethic and drive to perfect his craft. For an aspiring musician like Nate, this was an amazing opportunity and he soaked up as much of Quest Love and The Roots’ essence as he could. This was something he would be able to use along his journey.

After completing his internships and graduating with an MBA in 2011 from the University of Colorado Denver, Nate moved on to become a Coordinating Producer for Mark Cuban’s AXS TV. AXS TV is a television network providing the best in music programming, festivals, comedy performances, and mixed martial arts promotions. He worked at AXS for two years in the music and sports divisions traveling around the country working its festivals. Nate liked this job but didn’t love it, so he made a drastic change.

The drastic change was moving to Richmond, VA. Now, why would someone who’s lived in New York and Los Angeles decide to move to Virginia? To play music of course, and this was just another part of Nate’s journey where he lived and performed with his band ’The Congress’. In addition to playing shows in Richmond, which is very supportive of its local artists. Nate and his band traveled the country playing music and sometimes having to sleep in their van, or a hotel if they were lucky enough.

I asked Nate if the rock and roll lifestyle ever got the best of him. He said music is his vice and it kept him away from doing drugs and other things. He added, traveling the country by van with a handful of guys is rough and can make a person restless, but once the music starts it’s all worth it.

An interesting fact, in 2011 Nate worked as a professor at the University of Colorado Denver teaching music business: finance and analysis. After a semester, the wanderlust in him kicked in and he had to explore other avenues in life. He said he loved working as a professor and would like to do it again when he’s older and has soaked up more of life and other experiences!

After meeting Nate and feeding off his energy, I quickly booked a flight to Los Angeles since it’s been a place I’ve procrastinated to explore.  If you take away one thing from this story, remember to always pursue happiness. Take that trip you’ve been putting off for years. Learn something new, help a stranger out. No matter what, always be attempting to do amazing things. If you do there’s no way you’ll be disappointed with life.

Finding Soul with Jourdan Eloriaga

Finding Soul with Jourdan Eloriaga

Our very own, Trevor Turner, of the Communications Committee will be writing a monthly piece on an up and coming "influencer" in the Denver area. Check out the April article below on Jourdan Eloriaga on his rapidly growing Instagram page and other entrepreneurial endeavors! If you know of any young professionals that would be a good fit for this type of article in the coming months, please email comm@milehighyp.com. Thanks!

Finding Soul with Jourdan Eloriaga

By Trevor Turner

How many Instagram followers does it take to go viral?

I couldn’t tell you, but Jourdan Eloriaga and his site "The Skillful Voice" has almost 23,000 Instagram followers, making him a contender for the phrase “Going viral.”

The Skillful Voice is a virtual community where dreamers can dream while showcasing their musical chops on the internet. The website’s visibility is strong and Jourdan’s social media attracts singers from around the world. It’s also a haven of inspiration providing vocal lessons and tips such as singing warm ups and advice for singer-songwriters. All of which, is created and managed by Denver’s own 26-year-old Jourdan Eloriaga.

Jourdan is a classically trained vocalist originally from Orange County, California and his goal in creating The Skillful Voice was to build a platform for aspiring musicians. It also hosts singing contests which Jourdan selects a winner and promotes them on Instagram. Don’t worry; he doesn’t give nasty criticism like Simon Cowell.

When it comes to singing, Jourdan considers himself a soul singer and is often attempting to push the envelope by writing one song a week. He also plays the guitar and looks up to Eric Clapton and Slash for their skills on the axe. As far as songwriting, Notorious B.I.G and Nas are his go to. He admires their lyricism and how they can convey a story all while keeping a beat.

If you’re ever at an open mic night in Denver you might run into Jourdan singing and jamming out on his guitar. And when he’s not playing music he’s working on The Skillful Voice or his other startup WalletGyde. WalletGyde provides easy ways to save money and easily track your finances and develop good habits to start saving your cash.

Like many young professionals, Jourdan isn’t sure what the future holds. He’s going to continue working hard on his two companies and see where life takes him. He’s also writing an eBook for The Skillful Voice, so stay tuned.

Following our conversation, Jourdan pulled his guitar out and played in the street in downtown RINO. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1UREKX477n6b1JkX2lnOXJKVmM/view

Colorado is the Top Economy in the Nation!

Colorado is the Top Economy in the Nation!

Colorado comes out on top in a Business Insider ranking of the nation's top economies.

The national business and technology news website said it evaluated each state on eight measures, including unemployment, the number of non-farm payroll jobs, gross domestic product, average wages, the working age (18-64) population, value of international exports, house prices and auto sales. ( Methodology details here.)

Colorado "was in the top 10 states on five of our metrics, and in the top 15 on the other three," Business Insider said. It said the local economy is "highly diversified, and it especially boasts a strong aerospace sector and a huge amount of federal investment."

It noted a 2.8 percent growth in payroll jobs in the state over the 12 months ending in June, and a 3.8 percent growth in state gross domestic product last year.

All in all, said Business Insider, "Colorado's economy is broadly growing at a healthy clip, and so it comes in as the overall winner."

California came in at No. 2, followed by Texas, Arizona and Utah.

Alaska held down the bottom spot in the ranking, with Business Insider noting the depletion of the state's oil deposits, followed by Vermont and New Mexico.

CGI Day of Action

  • June 16, 2014

Dear Concerts For Kids Volunteer,

I am excited to let you know that the Clinton Foundation is partnering with Denver-based non-profit Concerts For Kids, Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver, and Project C.U.R.E for a Day of Action on June 22. I hope you will join me, the Clinton Foundation and hundreds of volunteers from the Denver area to make the city stronger and more vibrant.

At the Clinton Foundation, we're all grateful to have the opportunity to help make a real impact in Denver, a city we're honored is hosting the CGI America meeting later that week, and we're hoping to gather hundreds of Clinton Foundation supporters to participate in our Day of Action. Will you join us?

There are few things more important than giving back to our communities and strengthening our shared future. It is a passion that drives the work of my family and everyone who works at the Clinton Foundation, and that passion and ethos inspired our first Clinton Foundation Day of Action for New York in November 2012, in response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy. Because you are supporter of the Clinton Foundation, I hope it's a passion that you share.

I'm continually amazed by the greater impact we can make when we work together than when we work alone. And this June 22 in Denver, by working together, we can help revitalize neighborhoods, recreation centers and parks, feed the hungry and do so much more.

That is why I sincerely hope you will join me for a Day of Action with Concerts For Kids, Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver, and Project C.U.R.E to come together with hundreds of people to make an immediate and direct impact on your city.

Please register today.

Thank you again for all your work to build a stronger and more equitable world.

Hope to see you on June 22nd!

Thank you,
Chelsea Clinton

March Table of 10 Recap

The Table of Ten this month featured Jason Regier: Paralympian, non-profit leader, national speaker.  It was an absolute honor for us that had the privilege of having discussing success, mindset, ‘disabilities’, and culture.  Below are a couple of the highlights:

  • Morbid curiosity is natural!  Know that it is OK to ask questions and talk to people that are different.
  • Stick with your strengths and passions.
  • Work on connecting with people over projects and meaningful experiences.
  • Know that the only way to be disabled is a bad attitude, happiness and positivity is a choice.
  • Learn to say "no" to things and you will become more successful in what you focus on.
  • Give yourself constraints, go narrow and deep rather than broad and shallow.

This was a one of a kind lunch, but next month’s will be great as well!  Watch for the registration email for next month’s Table of Ten with Terry Adams, the Executive Director of the Cherry Creek Arts Festival.

February Table for Ten Recap

“The game isn’t over.” Bill Chrismer concluded after reflecting on his path to becoming a small business owner.

Why does one go from working in mergers and acquisitions to owning GQ Barber Lounge, the finest grooming emporium for men in the world?

For Bill, it was the opportunity to change peoples’ lives.

At last Wednesday’s Table of 10 Lunch at Sullivan’s Steakhouse, ten members of MHYP had the privilege of meeting and conversing with Bill Chrismer who was accompanied by two of his stylists, Shea and Molly. He explained how he enjoyed seeing them grow and succeed in his business and we can surmise that they were just two of many lives he touched after starting GQ Barber Lounge nine years ago.

Bill then proceeded to give a candid and entertaining narrative of his career in corporate banking and mergers and acquisitions as well as describing the struggles and triumphs of starting his own venture. He also laid out some of his philosophy on life and business.

Bill’s philosophy of business ownership started as a teenager while working at major America aerospace and defense contractor, McDonnell Douglas. He explained that although McDonnell Douglas was at one time a large and well known organization, today it lacks the prominence it once had. Unlike the diminishing impression that a large company can potentially leave over time, Bill explained that owning your own business can leave a lasting mark. This impact affects those you hire, your customers, and members of the community.

Bill also shared with us some advice that coincided with his philosophy of running his own business:

  • Get a mentor
  • Go to bookstores
  • Never stop learning
  • Value your health and relationships
  • Maintain your energy
  • Always keep your word
  • Genuinely Care
  • Find Your Faith
  • Persist

At the end of the lunch, Bill told us that one aspect of the game is to find out what you want and be willing to go after it. He did. But for him, the game isn’t over.

Denver jobs picture brightens even more

Denver jobs picture brightens even more

Denver, which achieved a full employment recovery in the first quarter, continued to add jobs in the second, according to a study released Wednesday.

The Mountain Monitor report, which tracks the economic recovery in Denver and other cities in the Intermountain West, is done by the Brookings Institute and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. A PDF of the report can be downloaded here.

The Mountain Monitor tracks quarterly indicators of economic recession and recovery in the six-state mountain region’s 10 major metropolitan areas that fall within the 100 most populous nationally. September Table of 10 with Frank Coyne Recap

September Table of 10 with Frank Coyne Recap

MHYP Table of 10 with Frank Coyne

The Table of Ten Series featured Frank Coyne, who has been on the forefront of education reform, founded Denver Green School which was one of the first Denver Innovation Schools.  We had an amazing conversation about education reform, and where we are headed.  Below are the highlights of our lunch:

  • Colorado has a paradox in that we import all of our talent, we have a very high amount of college educated workers, but our kids have a very low High School graduation rate. In Denver, less than 60% of students who start 9th grade walk across the stage at Graduation. This is not conducive to economic growth or to a stronger Denver. Improving or solving this will greatly improve the Denver economy. (More on the Colorado Paradox)
  • DPS is the fastest growing urban district in the USA, yet our funding is one of the lowest. Part of the problem is that Education funding in Colorado is ranked 46th in the nation.  Schools like the Denver Green School need to keep opening in order for Denver to provide strong education.
  • Denver innovation schools are allowed more flexibility in one of three areas: 1) Teacher Hiring 2) Federal Guidelines 3) State Guidelines.  This gives the school the freedom to cut out some of the bureaucracy holding them back and focus on the kids and improving their education.
  • We are moving towards a portfolio approach that allows the kid and their family to choose the best school for the kid.  The result has been better graduation and college entrance rates.

It was a powerful lunch, and everyone there left with a deeper understanding of what is wrong with our education system, and what people like Frank Coyne are doing to fix it.

Inc. Magazine Unveils Its Annual Exclusive List of America’s Fastest-Growing Private Companies—the Inc.500|5000

MHYP Member Lindsey Leins' company Greystone Technology Group, Inc. Ranks No. 2028 on the 2013 Inc. 500|5000 with Three-Year Sales Growth of 184%

NEW YORK, August 22, 2013 -- Inc. magazine today ranked Colorado-based Greystone Technology Group, Inc. NO. 2028 on its seventh annual Inc. 500|5000, an exclusive ranking of the nation's fastest-growing private companies. The list represents the most comprehensive look at the most important segment of the economy— America’s independent entrepreneurs. Fuhu tops this year’s list. Greystone joins LivingSocial, Edible Arrangements, CDW and Lifelock, among other prominent brands featured on this year’s list.

"We are excited that we continue to build on our momentum of the past few years,” said Peter Melby, President of Greystone Technology Group. “We are especially proud at the quality of growth we've experienced, both in our team and our client base,” he said. “While rankings alone will never be our measure of success, we truly appreciate this recognition. It reveals that our unique business model really is outpacing the rest of the Colorado IT services market."

In a stagnant economic environment, median growth rate of 2013 Inc. 500|5000 companies is an impressive 142 percent. (Since then, a number of companies on the list have gone public or been acquired.) The minimum revenue required for 2009 is $100,000; the minimum for 2012 is $2 million. As always, Inc. reserves the right to decline applicants for subjective reasons. Companies on the Inc. 500 are featured in Inc.’s September issue. August Table of Ten with Jung Park Recap

August Table of Ten with Jung Park Recap

The August Table of Ten Series featured Jung Park, founder of Metroboom.  We had a great conversation on personal branding, the town of Denver, and building a community.  Below are the highlights of our lunch.

  • People decide if they can trust you in 0.25 seconds, so your appearance and how you carry yourself is very important.  Build who you want to be through your personal definition of success, from there look at image, handshake, conversation skills, etc.
  • There is not 6 degrees of separation in Denver, it’s more like 2.  Be careful of who you’re spending your time with and do not be afraid to cut ties with bad people who can tarnish your reputation.
  • MetroBoom is a community in itself and has been the most effective advertising possible.  Jung does not use any traditional or paid advertising or marketing.  His clients help run charity events, walk on the catwalk for award shows and are truly a part of the business.  He never uses models, all pictures and  are actual clients and they love it.  He also hosts happy hours and other events for clients so they can get to know each other.

It was a powerful lunch, but if you missed it be ready to register next month.  Look for an email on Wednesday September 11th at 10am!

MHYP June Table of Ten Recap

MHYP June Table of Ten Recap

June's Table of Ten Series featured John Levisay.  We had a great conversation on lifestyle, changing careers, business, and growth.  Here are a few takeaways:

* Levisay transitioned from education, to business school, to an investment bank, to eBay Motors, to servicemagic.com, to founding Sympoz.  Don’t be afraid to make a change, don’t tread water and always pursue a place that you can learn a lot from.

* Have a passion for the business, not for the product.  Sympoz is his business and he is very passionate about it, but he sells classes like quilting, which he is not passionate about.

* Have a hypothesis and test it quickly at a low cost.  Quickly make decisions based on the testing on where to build traction.

* Be OK with saying no to cool ideas that don’t have a significant market.

MHYP Table of Ten Recap

MHYP's Table of Ten Series recently featured Andrea Constantine, an author of numerous books on community and connecting people (more information is available at http://andreacostantine.com/andrea-costantine-resources).

We had a deep conversation on treating others as humans, no matter what they look like or their life circumstances, what would we like to change about the world, and the importance of connecting and conversing with strangers.

Some of the key takeaways were:

·Make a point to look everyone in the eye and smile to people that you normally wouldn’t, such as the person checking you out at the grocery store, or the homeless.  You have the power to change their day and make them happier, and the ripple effect can be endless.

·Everyone must feel like they belong to their community, without a sense of belonging things like crime, substance abuse, dropout rates and other senseless activities climb.

·Everyone in the community matters, so treat them that way.  The more connected a community is the more happy it can be.

MHYP March Table of Ten Series Recap

MHYP March Table of Ten Series Recap

The March Table of Ten series featured Adam Schlegel from Snooze.  We had a fantastic conversation about food, sustainability, and culture.  Some of the key takeaways were:

*  Order of Schlegel's priorities in his business are: 1 – people, 2 – planet and 3 – profits.

*  Your "why" has to be strong enough to carry your business through tough times.  If you have a "why" that’s genuine and you live it, you will not be stopped.  Check out this TED talk on the subject: Simon Sinek, How Great Leaders Inspire Action

*  Culture is hard to maintain, especially with a large number of employees all over the country.  Take your time hiring the right people, and get to know their REAL personality.  Schlegel takes all of his managers out for a beer and whiskey before he hires them.

Don't worry if you missed it, we have many fantastic presenters scheduled for the rest of the year! Members, look for the registration email for next month on April 10th at 10am.  Our guest of honor will be Denver City Councilman Chris Herndon.
