The “Airport City Denver” plan plots out potential uses for some 9,400 acres of DIA property not needed for airport expansion over the next 30 to 50 years.
The plan designates sites flanking airport runways and access roads for hotels, retail, renewable-energy research sites and power generating systems, agriculture sites, manufacturing, logistics — even a car sales lot.
“Because of the gift we have been given by the leaders who came before us, we have a unique opportunity to take our region’s biggest economic engine and spark a new era of growth that will transform Metro Denver and revitalize the regional economy,” Hancock said in a statement.
“We will create a development that thrives on the airport’s natural synergy, attracting business and jobs that benefit from a close relationship to the airport and its inherent access to national and international markets,” the mayor added.
