Savinay serves as Executive Director of Minds Matter of Denver [MMD], a mentoring organization that helps high-achieving students from low-income communities get into college with scholarships. He has been involved with MMD for nearly the entire 6+ years he’s been in Denver. He started as Director of Curriculum and Director of Test Prep in his first year, and then switched roles to become co-Director of the Sophomore Program and Vice President in his second year. In July 2014, he was elected President of MMD, and was hired as the first Executive Director and first full-time staff member in May 2016.
In his past, Savinay founded focusedesign, a social consultancy that helped education and social impact organizations unleash their internal creativity and innovation in search of solutions to some of the most pressing problems they faced. In this work, he traveled to 20 countries over 3 years, working with clients ranging from the Tennessee Department of Education to the United Nations Development Programme in Kyrgyzstan.
Prior to consulting, Savinay worked at Denver Public Schools, leading the implementation of Common Core and Colorado Academic Standards across all schools within the district.
Savinay also spent 8 years at Boeing, managing major subcontracts in their Aerospace and Defense organizations.
Savinay has a Bachelors in Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania, an MBA in Global Development from Thunderbird School of Global Management, and a Masters in Educational Leadership from The Broad Center for the Management of School Systems.
In addition to serving on the Board of Minds Matter of Denver and Minds Matter National, Savinay is also on the Denver Metro Chamber Leadership Foundation Board and serves as the Secretary of the Luminary Learning Network board, an autonomous zone for select innovation schools within Denver Public Schools.
